Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University – English Language Centre (ELC)
Salary 20,500 RMB per month + attractive benefits package
Are you interested in joining a large team of EAP tutors and playing a key role in the further development of a new, unique international University? Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is located in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) which is a joint venture between China and Singapore, situated outside the historic city of Suzhou and just 80 km from Shanghai. The University, which opened its doors to its first intake of students in 2006, takes the best of Chinese and British Higher Education and creates a new experience for staff and students. XJTLU aims to supply graduates able to work in today’s fast-moving global economy, and to provide an exciting cutting-edge research-led environment for its staff.
The ELC is responsible for providing English and study skills tuition for all students at the University. There are several different scales for Tutors, Associate Tutors and Teaching Assistants working in the English Language Centre, and there are positions to suit experienced EAP tutors as well as EFL teachers who want to make the transition to EAP. Currently, there are currently more than 40 staff in the ELC, with over 20 new staff already signed up to join us in August 2010. However, because of a large increase in student numbers, there are still a few positions open.
We are looking for tutors of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to work in the English Language Centre (ELC). Applicants for positions as Tutors in the English Language Centre should hold an MA in Applied Linguistics / TESOL, or a similar type of qualification. They should be excellent team players and be able to offer support and training in the teaching of EAP to colleagues. Experience and interest in any of the following areas is highly desirable: relevant experience of working with Chinese students at tertiary level; Pre-sessional or In-sessional EAP teaching, EAP syllabus and materials design; Mentoring colleagues, and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).
