Improving earlier lung cancer detection by Identifying early symptoms
Dr. Lucy Brindle and Dr. Steve George
The studentship sits within a programme of research identifying the predictive and diagnostic value of early symptoms for lung cancer, led by Lucy Brindle and Jessica Corner. The project will identify the diagnostic value of symptoms for lung cancer diagnosis in a population referred to a ‘lung shadow’ clinic and will contribute towards the outcomes of a high priority NIHR funded study. The student will recruit patients, administer a symptoms questionnaire and analyse questionnaire and diagnostic data.
The studentship would be suitable for statistics, psychology, sociology, medical or health sciences graduates with quantitative research skills and an interest in epidemiology.
Students will receive a yearly stipend of £13,290, full time UK PhD fees and £800 per year for consumables/travel for a total of three years.The studentships must be taken up by October 2010.
Preference will be given to full-time students but part-time applicants may be considered.

Candidates must have at least an upper second-class honours degree and/or MSc or equivalent, in a relevant subject. Please detail any research experience in your CV.
