Lecturer – Energy Systems
University of Strathclyde – Mechanical Engineering
(SALARY £36,715- £45,155 PER ANNUM)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest in the UK, with around 35 academic staff, 600 undergraduate students and 200 postgraduate research and instruction students. It has the highest independently-assessed standing in its discipline in Scotland for both teaching and research.
Energy-related research is pursued within the Department’s Energy Systems Research Unit (ESRU), with solutions pursued at all scales, from building-integrated micro-generator schemes to large marine/wind farms. A feature of the research is the evolution of simulation tools to help designers improve the performance of energy systems and reduce environmental impacts. ESRU operates the Scottish Energy Systems Group, which is transferring advanced modelling and simulation tools into architectural and engineering practices, and was recently recognised as a Centre of Excellence in Energy Utilisation by the BRE Trust.
The Department is in receipt of an EPSRC Science and Innovation Award, which seeks to strengthen the ‘health of discipline’ in the key theme of energy. In order to support work in this area, the Department wishes to recruit a Lecturer.. The successful applicant will bring leadership to relevant aspects of the ESRU research portfolio, which covers a broad spectrum, including but not limited to: energy monitoring and demand control; new and renewable energy technologies; energy systems modelling and simulation; design tool development and dissemination; energy efficiency technologies and procedures; combined heat and power; and Internet-enabled energy services.
The successful candidate will have: a PhD (or imminently pending) in an area related to energy demand and/or supply; experience with the application of energy modelling and simulation in research/design contexts; relevant teaching experience and a strong track record of original research in energy demand and/or supply
Formal interviews for the post will be held on Monday 22 March 2010.
