PhD Opportunities in Psychology

Heriot-Watt University – School of Life Sciences

The School invites applications for 3 scholarships for research towards a PhD in any area of Psychology that falls within the research interests of members of the Applied Psychology group. Scholarships will be awarded for one year in the first instance, renewable for up to two further years subject to satisfactory progress. They will be up to £13K in value, including fees (at the home/EU or overseas rate) and a stipend. Further support may be available through paid teaching duties.

The Applied Psychology group at Heriot-Watt was established in 2003, and has a rapidly growing research profile in three areas: Relationships and Well-being; Applied Cognition and Vision; and Cognitive Development and Education. It is supported by a suite of laboratories equipped for a wide range of experimental research, and by excellent library and computing facilities. Further information about the research activities of individual staff can be found at http://www.psychology.hw.ac.uk/research.php.

Successful applicants will have a good first degree, or a Masters degree, in Psychology, or in another relevant discipline, and will be expected to take up scholarships in September 2010.

To apply, first contact potential supervisors for an informal discussion of possible research projects (using email links in the web page above). Then, for an application form, please go to http://www.postgraduate.hw.ac.uk/apply/, where you can either submit an online application form or download a copy. Completed forms should be accompanied by a two-page research proposal.
