The Role Of krill Grazing In Southern Ocean Nutrient Cycles
University of Southampton – School of Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre, Southampton
£27,319 to £28,139 per annum
The School of Ocean and Earth Science (within the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton) is seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to work on a NERC funded project “The role of krill grazing in Southern Ocean nutrient cycles“. The project is studying the role of krill with respect to iron biogeochemistry and potential consequent effects on primary production in this ocean region.
The successful applicant will be involved in a research cruise in the study region (December 2010), sampling and analysis of dissolved and particulate iron and other elements (using flow-injection and ICP-MS techniques), the interpretation of the elemental data in the context of a wide range of supporting data on biological and physical processes, and a major role will be the preparation of scientific papers.
You will have a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry, and in particular have knowledge of Fe biogeochemistry. You will demonstrate the ability to write scientific papers and have good oral communication skills, effectively use modern techniques for analytical measurements, data assimilation and dissemination and have a strong desire to work as part of a research team.
