Postdoctoral Research Associate Silicon-based Single-Spin Quantum Information Technology

University of Southampton – Nano Group, School of Electronics and Computer Science

£27,319 – £33,600 per annum

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to join an EPSRC funded project: “Silicon-based Integrated Single-Spin Quantum Information Technology”. The successful candidate will design, fabricate and characterize single-spin controlled quantum information devices on an ultra-thin silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate in a newly-built £100M clean room with state-of-the-art fabrication and characterization facilities at the Southampton Nanofabrication Centre: http://www.southampton-nanofab.com/. Electron beam lithography will be used to fabricate double single-electron turnstile devices co-integrated with an in-plane single-electron electrometer and a nanomagnet. Nanoscale electron spin resonance (ESR) will be used for single spin manipulation, and a spin-to-charge conversion technique will be used for readout.

This is a joint project with the Microelectronics Group at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge (Dr Andrew Ferguson) with project partners from the Hitachi Cambridge Laboratory and the NTT Basic Research Laboratories, Japan. An associated position is also advertised for this project from University of Cambridge.

You will have recently completed a PhD in micro/ nanoelectronics or physics (or a related field). Desirable skills for the project are: a good experience in nanoscale device fabrication in a semiconductor cleanroom environment and low-temperature electrical measurement. You will be expected to be in post in March 2010 and the funds for this post are available for three years.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Hiroshi Mizuta: hm2@ecs.soton.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is: 26 March 2010 at 12.00 noon
