This is a unique opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher to join the Medical Decision Making and Informatics research group at King’s College London.

The successful applicant will work on TRANSFoRm (Translational Medicine and Patient Safety in Europe), an EU-funded research programme staring in March 2010 and spanning 5 years. The postholder will work on one of the programme’s work packages that has 3 aims: 1) to investigate the comparative effectiveness of different types of diagnostic support using experimental design; 2) to contribute to the design of a generic human-computer interface for the electronic health record, using human factors methods and principles and 3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the final diagnostic support tool.

The post is suitable for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in a relevant area of psychology (decision making, human factors) and further work/research experience in a relevant area (cognitive ergonomics, human-computer interaction). Applicants should have a track record in employing robust methods to solve important, real-life problems. They should have had experience in formal task analysis methods, user requirements elicitation, interface design, and/or prototype testing.

Starting salary will be £39,974, inclusive of £2,323 London Weighting Allowance, depending on qualifications and experience.

The post is available for three years in the first instance.
