Starting salary: £46,509 rising annually to £52,346
The School of Technology wishes to strengthen its research base with the appointment of two Readers, one in an area of computer science and the other in an area of engineering. We are looking for individuals who will take a leading role in the development of research and knowledge transfer, including management of PhD students and research groups where appropriate.
Areas of research interest for the Engineering post include: computational fluid dynamics, thermofluids, engines and powertrain, automotive control and instrumentation systems, renewable energy and sustainability engineering, engineering reliability and risk management, stress analysis and materials, engineering dynamics, joining technology.
Areas of research interest for the Computer Science post include: computer graphics and visualisation, machine learning, computer vision applications, algorithms, combinatorics and complexity, software engineering and safety-critical systems, wireless sensor networks.
You will be responsible for:
- undertaking research of international standard
- taking a lead role in the management of the strategic development of research within the school
- leading on the development of new/interdisciplinary areas of research
- responding to and developing new opportunities to secure external research funding
- teaching students at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and supervising research students
You should have:
- a PhD in computer science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, materials science or closely related discipline
- research experience of at least 5 years in an area of interest to the school
- proven ability to obtain external funding for research
- experience of supervising PhD students and/or postdoctoral research assistants
- significant teaching experience
