Research Assistant: Salary in the range of £26,720 – £29,700 per annum

Research Associate: Salary in the range of £30,520 – £38,930 per annum

All appointments will normally be made at the bottom of the salary range

Fixed term appointments for 1 year in the first instance

We are seeking up to three researchers to conduct research in Network Technology under the supervision of Professor Erol Gelenbe.  The Research Assistant/Research Associate will be expected to participate in advanced research on Distributed Systems and Internet technology with a theoretical and experimental perspective, and will also contribute to supporting the computing and networking needs of this project.




You will possess strong programming skills and have system level understanding of operating systems and networks, including IP and TCP and programmable networks.  A sound understanding of numerical and non-numerical computing, prior experience with Linux based systems programming and operating systems and a good background in queuing networks, stochastic systems, neural networks and adaptive systems are essential.  Prior experience in the specific area of research, including work on cognitive packet networks and random neural networks, reinforcement learning, network quality of service, stochastic modeling methods and queuing networks is desirable. Applicants should also have the ability to perform effectively under pressure and time constraints, possess good writing skills, personal organisation and time management skills, the ability to pay close attention to detail and have effective interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide variety of people.

If appointed at Research Assistant level, you must possess an advanced degree, such as a Master of Science (or equivalent) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science/Computing, or Mathematics.  A Research Assistant who does not already have a PhD will be expected to work towards the PhD while working on this project.  If the post is taken at post-doctoral level, a PhD (or equivalent) is required in one of the above areas.
