Salary: £30,520 – £33,080 per annum
The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as “Excellent” in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate for the prestigious EPSRC iHealth: Grand Challenges for Healthcare project. The purpose of this project is to provide information systems that enable the evaluation and optimisation of clinical care pathways to provide personalised treatment to individuals in hospital.
Within the project this position will be responsible for application case studies, data analysis and modelling and also in helping in the implementation of the overall system. The position will also work on system level modelling.
To apply for this position, you will need to have a strong computing or engineering background. You should have proven knowledge and track record in one or more of the following areas: Healthcare informatics, Translational Medicine, Bioinformatics, Data Mining & Machine Learning and Stochastic Modelling and Simulations. You will have experience in the implementation of software tools for data mining, bioinformatics, clinical healthcare systems, conducting application case studies for data analysis and integration of the software tools within the wider software system already implemented. Strong programming experience in Java, C++ and other languages is required.
You will have a PhD degree (or equivalent) in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e., Computing or Engineering with a focus on either bioinformatics applications, healthcare informatics or data analysis.
You must have excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas. All applicants must be fluent in English.
You will be part of the Discovery Sciences Group, led by Professor Yike Guo based at the South Kensington campus.
The preferred starting date for this post is January 2010 or shortly thereafter.
