We have a position available for an independent, ambitious and highly motivated individual to work on a BBSRC funded project within the laboratory of Dr Colin Selman. You will use an integrative approach from whole-animal physiology to various genomic, molecular and cellular approaches in order to dissect out the mechanisms underlying healthy ageing in insulin receptor substrate 1 (Irs1) null mice (see Selman et al. 2008, FASEB J).

A PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related Biological Science topic is essential, as is evidence of first author publications. Experience in some of the following; mouse husbandry, whole-animal physiology, DNA base excision repair and antioxidant enzyme assays, tissue cell culture, mitochondrial biology or molecular biology would be advantageous. Training will be provided to enable the candidate to extend their skills. Expertise in the isolation of mouse primary fibroblasts would also be desirable.
