Job Purpose

The University of Leicester in partnership with the cardio-respiratory directorate at the University Hospitals of Leicester has secured a prestigious 3 year award from the NIHR to develop a Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) on the Glenfield Hospital site.One of the key components of the BRU is the development and implementation of a research bio-resource (Leicester Cardiovascular Bio-resource, LCB). The LCB will be capturing and storing samples from the clinical population within the cardio-respiratory directorate at the Glenfield Hospital. A new high specification outpatient based research laboratory will built for sample collection and processing.The bio resource will be built as a start of the art storage and tracking facility that will integrate directly with the bio-informatics database. Working in close collaboration with the bio-informatics team the post holder(s) will be responsible for the processing, storage, retrieval and some of the analysis the bio resource. Key performance Indicators for the post holder will be:

• Work with the LCB Manager and academic lead to implement and maintain an efficient and effective BRU laboratory and BRU LCB.

• Provide day to day operation of the laboratory, sample management and processing and the bioresource.

• Work closely with the BRICCS Project Manager, academic lead and database officers to provide transition of data to and from the LCB.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals who have preferably had previous experience of processing of samples from human subjects within a clinical or research laboratory environment to join the BRU team to deliver a world class research unit.
