Salary, £28,000. Substantial final bonus payable on completion of the project.
The successful applicant will be working on an international collaborative project with the Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology at the University of Dundee. The project ‘IIIOS’ sets out to provide technology and training for the integration of ultrasound and biophotonics based imaging guidance and robotics with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to define the specs of an Integrated Interventional Imaging Operating System (IIIOS) aimed at minimal invasive treatment of common life-threatening cardiovascular disorders and cancer.
The role will involve conducting research within the field of MRI compatible devices with a focus on interdisciplinary translational development of MRI safe and compatible instruments and their application. The position will require undertaking training in cutting-edge methodologies such as Operative Procedures and Imaging Systems that are implemented by a large number of European research facilities, St Andrews, Delf, Olso, Trondheim, Homburg Saar, Luebeck, Brno, Haifa. Short term secondments to partner institutions conducting collaborative research will be an integral part of the role.
As an essential requirement the applicant should have a good first degree and less than 4 years research experience. The first degree should be in BME, Medical Sciences, Physics or a related subject. Clinical background would be helpful.
The post is based at the Institute of Medical Science & Technology, Wurzburg Loan, Dundee Medipark, Dundee, GE’s first European Centre for MR guided Interventions and Surgery.
This is a full-time fixed-term contract for 3 years commencing in January 2010.
As a requirement of the grant this position is open only to researchers not residing or having their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in last 3 years before recruitment.
