Surrey University is strengthening its research focus on Water and the Environment, and applications are invited for two academic posts within the Division of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering. We are seeking to appoint talented, enthusiastic and collegiate individuals, with research credentials in water engineering, water/wastewater treatment, environmental engineering, or utility engineering, and an interest in the strategy implications of water/ environmental policies. You will have a PhD in a related field (such as civil, environmental, industrial or systems engineering or physical sciences) and high quality publications. Post-doctoral research experience and/or a track record of quality teaching would be desirable. A record in gaining research funding is particularly welcome.
You will be expected to teach in related areas at undergraduate level and within our suite of Water and Environmental MSc courses, as well as making a general contribution within our programmes. Depending on experience, qualifications and research track record, one appointment will be made at the Lecturer level and the other at an appropriate level within the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/ Reader band.
The Division of Civil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Surrey enjoys an outstanding reputation for the quality of its undergraduate courses, which benefit from strong industrial links and associated scholarships. In the latest National Student Survey, our courses topped the national league table for overall satisfaction. Our MSc provision offers a wide variety of highly successful programmes, in both contact and distance learning format. The Division was a vital part of a successful RAE 2008 General Engineering return, which was ranked 8th nationally according to the Times Higher analysis.
Research is organised into inter-disciplinary groups and the successful applicants will be expected to collaborate with colleagues to enhance the relevance and impact of their research output. We currently have a wide ranging research portfolio in Civil Engineering, including projects in water and environmental systems, soil remediation, structural engineering and infrastructure asset management. The Division hosts the internationally renowned Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES), which specialises in multi-disciplinary approaches to research and postgraduate education, addressing long-term environmental problems from a sustainable development perspective. CES works closely with research end-users in the private and public sectors and has an ethos of problem-solving, in particular through a long running and now expanding EPSRC-funded Industrial Doctoral Centre (EngD). The Lecturer post will be based jointly in CES and Civil Engineering.
