(Ref: 7657)
Salary: £28,983 – £31,671 per annum (subject to qualifications and experience)
A Research Fellow opportunity exists in the Division of Mechanical, Medical, and Aerospace Engineering for a suitably qualified candidate. This is a 2-year, full-time post, available from 1st August 2010 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
EPSRC have recently awarded a second phase of funding under its SUPERGEN programme to its consortium on wind power. The University of Surrey is one of the consortium partners – further details, including a list of its industrial partners, can be found at: .
The consortium covers many aspects of wind power and a prime objective of the consortium is that the work is carried out in an integrated manner with an appropriate level of interaction between various parts of the project. The emphasis of the consortium is large wind farms of large wind turbines, primarily in the UK offshore context.
The post will be based in the EnFlo Laboratory at Surrey.
The aims of the work at Surrey is to provide a much improved understanding of the wakes of large wind turbines and how they interact with other wakes and turbines under various atmospheric wind flow conditions. The work will be primarily experimental, using the facilities of the EnFlo Laboratory, but interaction with other parts of the consortium will be an important part.
You will possess a PhD degree (or be very close to thesis submission) in an appropriate engineering or physical sciences discipline, and will ideally have a background in experimental fluid mechanics.
